Balloon Privacy Policy
Balloon is a Shopify app published by Sizzle (“Sizzle,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains what information the app accesses, how we store, use, and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to merchants who install Balloon and to shoppers who visit a store running it.
Balloon runs A/B tests on a store's pages. It uses AI to write alternate versions of page text (headlines, buttons, descriptions), serves them to visitors, measures which performs better, and lets the merchant apply the winner. Balloon never edits your theme: it changes only the specific element being tested, at page-load time.
Summary
Balloon reads your product content so its AI can write test variants, and records anonymous events on your storefront (which test version a visitor saw, and whether they viewed the page or added to cart) tied only to a random, first-party visitor id. It stores no shopper names, emails, phone numbers, or payment data. Data is stored in the United States with a small set of providers (Anthropic, Neon, and Netlify). When a merchant uninstalls, we delete their store's data about 48 hours later.
Information we access
Shopify grants the app this permission when a merchant installs it:
- Read products - your product titles, descriptions, and related text, so the AI can write test variants grounded in your real content and the app can show product names.
Balloon does not access customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, or payment information. (Measuring revenue per visitor from order totals is planned for a future version and would only proceed after Shopify approves protected customer data access; it is not collected today.)
Information Balloon collects from your storefront
When the merchant enables the Balloon app embed, a small script runs on the storefront and records:
- An anonymous visitor id - a random identifier stored in a first-party cookie so a visitor consistently sees the same test version. It is not linked to a person, account, email, or any personal information.
- Anonymous events - which test version a visitor saw, and whether they took a tracked action (viewed the page, added to cart). These are tied only to the anonymous visitor id.
Balloon does not collect or store personal data about your shoppers.
How Balloon uses AI
To write test variants, Balloon sends the relevant page content from your store (your own copy, plus general best-practice instructions) to Anthropic's Claude API. No shopper personal data is sent to the AI, and Anthropic does not train its models on this content.
Service providers
We share data only with the providers needed to run the app: Anthropic(AI generation of test variants), Neon (database), andNetlify (hosting). Balloon runs on Shopify, which handles billing. Data is processed and stored in the United States. Balloon does not sell data or share it with advertisers.
Data retention and deletion
- Your experiments and anonymous events are kept while Balloon is installed so results can be measured.
- About 48 hours after uninstall, Shopify sends a deletion request and we permanently delete the store's data.
- We respond automatically to Shopify's privacy webhooks: shop redaction (
shop/redact) deletes everything for the store. Because Balloon stores no shopper personal information, a customer data request or redaction has no personal data to return or erase beyond removing any anonymous event linkage.
Your choices
- Merchants can turn the Balloon app embed off at any time to stop all storefront activity immediately, and can stop or delete any test from the app.
- Uninstalling the app removes it and triggers deletion of the store's data.
